Same roots, new look: the story behind the MachShip rebrand

MachShip has a new look after twelve years. Here is the story behind the rebrand, what the new brand mark and colours mean, and what is coming next.

MachShip has a new look. New logo, new colours, a fresher feel across the board. But the new look is the smallest part of the story. It is the visible edge of something much bigger: twelve years of the platform growing to keep up with the businesses that rely on it.

First, the reassuring bit, because this is a visual refresh and nothing more. The platform you use every day is the platform you already know. Nothing has moved. What has changed is how we look and this is the story of why.

TL;DR: After twelve years, MachShip has a new look that reflects how far our platform has come, from freight booking to running whole operations. The brand caught up to the product. Here is the story behind it and a look at what is coming next.

How MachShip grew up

MachShip did not start in a boardroom. It started where most good freight stories start, in the warehouse, on the phone with carriers, buried in spreadsheets trying to make it all make sense. What began as a tool became a platform. What began as a team of four became a company of more than 80 people across three countries, working with 25,000 customers and more than 500 carriers.

None of that happened in a straight line. It happened because we kept listening to the people moving freight and kept building for what they needed next. The platform grew because the operations relying on it grew and it had to keep pace. Twelve years on, the brand was the one thing that had not caught up. So, we fixed that.

A platform that does more than you might realise

Here is the thing about growing steadily over twelve years. If you have been with us a while, the platform may do a lot more than you last had reason to notice. What started as a way to book and track freight now brings the whole operation into one place: every carrier, every cost, every consignment and the visibility to stay ahead of problems instead of chasing them.

It is the difference between a tool you use for one job and a platform your operation runs through. Booking across carriers, managing and reconciling costs, tracking in real time, connecting to the systems you already run. A lot of that has been quietly built out while you have been getting on with the work. The refresh felt like a good moment to say so.

What is here now, and what is coming next

The evolution is not just behind us. A lot has arrived recently and more is close behind.

For carriers, there are new tools that make it easier to connect and serve their own customers, rather than being just another option in someone else’s system. For businesses selling online, there is a broader eCommerce capability built into the platform. And underneath it all sits smarter automation, so more of the operation can simply run according to the rules you set.

There is more on the way, too. Deeper analytics and reporting are coming to turn everything moving through the platform into actionable insights. Predictive intelligence is coming to flag issues before they become problems. And self-service returns are coming to close one of the last manual loops in the process. If you explore the new site, you will see these signposted for what they are: where we are headed next, not claims about today.

The short version: MachShip is expanding well beyond where it began, for shippers, for those selling online and for carriers alike.

Why the brand grew with it

All of that growth is the reason a new look was overdue. The old brand told the story of a freight booking tool. The platform had quietly become something bigger: the layer on which a whole operation runs, from managing freight to orchestrating everything that moves with it. When the business changes that much, the brand eventually has to say so.

So, the new brand is built around one idea: momentum. It starts with the name. The “Mach” in MachShip is Mach 1, the speed of sound and the brand mark takes it from there. Our Sonic Boom is the shape of what happens when you break the sound barrier: moving fast and with purpose in the same direction. And the colours tell you what we move across: the blue of the sky, the orange of the earth, the grey of the road. Sky, earth and road. The three things freight travels through, in one mark.

It is a small piece of design carrying a big idea. That felt right for a company whose whole job is keeping things moving.

Take a look around

So that is the story. Same roots, same team, same platform you rely on, with a look that finally matches the company we have grown into and a clear sense of where we are headed.

Have a wander around the new site and see what is new. And if you want the bigger picture on where freight and logistics are heading and why we think the whole category is changing, we wrote about that too.
