Lawrence & Hanson is an electrical wholesaler operating nationally, with over 160 branches across Australia. Rob Pawsey is the National Logistics Manager, managing the logistics networks throughout the country.

“We’ve deployed MachShip across our entire branch network. Currently, we have over 175 branches set up within MachShip. We’ve got almost 1,100 users and leverage over 50 carriers on the platform,” said Pawsey.

With that level of scope and diversity within the business, Lawrence & Hanson needed a platform capable of streamlining and integrating operations nationally while still enabling branches to handle things autonomously.

Seamless scaling & autonomy

“Working with the MachShip team was fantastic. We initially had MachShip deployed at our flagship DC in Knoxfield in Victoria. So we had some knowledge of the platform and some configurations already set up. Then, when we wanted to scale on a national basis, the support team was there to help us every step of the way,” he said.

“One of the biggest challenges in my role is that each of our branches operates quite independently. And each branch is different from another. A branch that operates in Victoria is completely different from one that operates in Western Australia.”

“They have different requirements, different customers, and different needs for services. So, rolling out MachShip nationally was a real no-brainer for us because it gives power to the individual branches to manage their own freight requirements at a branch level.”

“Rolling it out nationally was actually really easy due to the useability of MachShip. We transitioned from an alternate freight booking platform onto the MachShip platform and the user uptake was excellent. The feedback was great and we were able to do it all remotely.”

Tangible results & standout features

“Deploying the platform nationally helped us achieve one of our core objectives: a reduction in supplier numbers. We’ve seen a 30% reduction across the board, which has helped us control and consolidate our spend.”

“One of the standout features of MachShip is the configuration and ease of ownership for a business like ours. We can control every aspect of the freight booking platform. We can also remotely assist every single one of our users and branches at any point in time.”

Support & solving challenges on the go

“One of the biggest issues we had with our previous freight booking platform was that we could only access it through our own network which required a Citrix login. The ease of access with MachShip being available on any browser has been a real standout in terms of allowing users to access the platform from anywhere at any time.”

“MachShip has been incredibly flexible in its ongoing support of our requirements. We’ve recently deployed their freight booking platform as a quasi-TMS to help us manage and control our locally owned fleet networks based around our DC locations.”

“Even though the platform isn’t fundamentally geared towards that outcome, the support team have worked with us to achieve a solution that solves the problem that we had.”

“We’ve already got 1,093 users set up and there’ll be more to come. We look forward to continuing to use MachShip throughout its operational network, especially for additional functionality such as multi-leg bookings, ‘track & trace’, and POD plug-in solutions.”
