Branched National Logistics

Branched National Logistics is a 4PL, specialising in managing interstate and local freight to provide optimal pricing and service to its customers. Here’s how MachShip keeps them ticking.

Branched National Logistics is a 4PL, specialising in managing interstate and local freight. The company leverages its buying power and direct accounts with various transport companies across Australia to offer comprehensive freight solutions, including road, rail, and overnight freight services.

After launching the business two years ago, Managing Director Chris Searl quickly realised he needed a user-friendly platform to manage multiple carriers in order to deliver the best possible pricing and service for his customers.

“We have a few sister companies that actually provide logistics services. The booking process was very clunky with them. Once we got them integrated into MachShip, it just simplified the whole process of creating a booking and sending it to the carrier — and things became a lot easier,” he said.

“We picked MachShip because we just heard so many glowing reviews about the software. There are some other software companies out there with a similar product, but there wasn’t one negative thing we’d heard about MachShip. They really painted the picture about all the features and benefits. It was a no-brainer in the end.”

Intuitive software, easy onboarding

“The onboarding process was extremely easy. We had a live demo where a rep came out and showed us all the features of the software. After we decided to go ahead, we had ongoing support from the integrations team, and also from our dedicated rep.”

“Any question we had was always answered within a few minutes. And they made that whole onboarding process very seamless and painless for us. Plus, the ongoing support is a big reason why we love using the platform.”

How MachShip adds value for 4PLs

As a 4PL, Branched National Logistics benefits greatly from having better cost transparency and visibility across the board when it comes to carriers.

“The best broker-specific features MachShip has would be the invoicing and reconciling side of things,” Searl said.

“It avoids all freight leakage. It takes the guesswork out of reconciling invoices. If something doesn’t match up with what you were quoted at the time of booking, it lets us know when we’re running those carrier invoices through the software. That makes it easier for us to create a second line so that we can advise our customers why their freight has come in more expensive, or cheaper, than quoted.”

“Carriers won’t actually tell you if there are extra charges sometimes. They’ll just include it all in that one original price. MachShip picks that out and finds out what the difference is — flags it as a red flag in our system — so we can go and ask the carrier why they’ve charged us more than they agreed to.”

“One of the best features we like about MachShip is the tracking. The tracking component is something that not every carrier offers. For us to be able to provide this is one of the reasons we’ve been able to secure as much business as we have. It means our clients aren’t getting chased by their own customers about where their freight is. It was a no-brainer in the end for us and we haven’t looked back since.”

Support that prioritises its customers

“As the Director of the company, I’ve always made myself accessible to my customers. While we’ve got a great Operations team that we’ve set up, where you can either call in or email with any queries, my customers all know that they can come directly to me if they’re not getting the response they need.”

“That’s the same way we feel about MachShip. The response time we get from the support team is within a few minutes. If it’s a more complicated issue, it might take a little bit longer. But I’ll get surprised sometimes. It might be 8.30pm when I’m catching up on some work. I’ll send through a query, not expecting to get a response back until the morning. Then I’ll get an email from one of the MachShip guys still working away and I’ll get a response back with a solution to my problem.”

“The Integrations Manager will even give us a call if it’s more urgent. We’ve just felt like we’re a valued customer of theirs since day one.”

Dedicated to improving the product

“Anytime we’ve presented any issues to MachShip, they’ve always come back with a solution. They’ve also got a feedback support page where you can suggest ideas. It works on a voting system — other customers can vote on whether a suggestion is a good idea or not. If enough people say that they want it, MachShip will actually go and build that in their next update which is great. There have been a few of those feature requests along the way which they’ve gone ahead and created for us.”

“There really aren’t any negatives. We’re very happy using the software.”
